Hiiiiii I'm back!
Welcome back to the inside of my mind
Dearest reader, (cc “Lady Whistledown") issuing a formal apology as I have neglected aaronistyping.substack.com all summer. I could lie and say I forgot my Substack password but the truth is…
I wasn’t feeling really creatively inspired (complaints to come)
Eat, Pray, and Love literally took over my entire summer (no complaints here)
Now that it’s October in New York, but literally still 85 degrees, I thought it would be the right time to pick up the pen (or keys) and come back to this safe place.
Anyway, Happy Monday! [Do we still say that?] One of the things I am looking to answer in the next phase of this Substack journey (if we could even call this a journey?) is what is the central topic we’re looking to discuss? Writing about life in New York City and the journey that is can be thought provoking, but I want to be able to go deeper.
One of the the things that has continued to circle through my mind is what does purpose mean? What is one’s individual purpose? Is purposed tied to career? Does career have to be tied to one’s purpose?
Maybe that is the driving force to enjoy the things that life has to offer…? I am going to noodle on this more and come back to you.
Another thing I was thinking more and more about especially this summer and connects back to my post on Instagram Story Likes - how does social media behavior play into modern dating?
Story views, story hiding, story and post liking. What does it mean? What does the nonverbal cues mean when it comes to dating and/or a crush? Again more on this later. I have many personal thoughts and accounts from my loyal inner circle of girlies and gays.
I also want to use this space to continue to share restaurants reviews. What is hot, what is not, what to try, where to go, where to avoid, what to order, how to get in, etc. Yes, I could start reviewing on TikTok sure, but find the recording of voice annoying (wanting to spare you all) and I think I can get my thoughts across better in writing.
And another thought, I have a dear friend who is traveling to Paris for the first time and wants to know everything to do in the city. Where to stay, where to eat, where to shop, what is new to see, any special exhibits - she has come to me to help curate an itinerary. Not just because she trusts me deeply, but because I (think) that I have that “je ne sais quoi”when it comes to organization, travel, and cities that can’t be taught.
Finally, another topic I want to continue to tackle is my love (and passion) for men’s fashion. I love a high / low moment and I do enjoy helping my friends get dressed for a night out, a date, or an event. Don’t get me wrong I am no authority on this topic, but the trust of my inner circle means a lot and being able to share that here should be publicized! Again in the spirt of honesty I did text my girlfriends this week what does “black tie optional” for men really look like… So I will be calling on my loyal fashionistas for their guidance as we dive into this topic as well.
Okay so I might have not answered the central question on purpose, but I believe we have reframed what you can expect from the aaronistyping.substack.com universe going forward. Because I love a list… Expect the following:
Life as a 30 something in NYC
Modern Dating
The dine out scene
Travel
Fashion
If that does or doesn’t work for you - let me know! My dms are open @aakauf
Thank you for your support ! ! x o x o
